Floppy disk access still slows down even XP, just slap one in the drive and open explorer. You don't need to click the A: drive in explorer either. Why XP should access a floppy drive before you request it is beyond reason and it can't be caching anything useful because it needs to access it again once selected in explorer.

My first and only version of 95 was OSR2, and only because some games I wanted were no longer offered as DOS versions, but didn't realize that active X was the straw that broke the camel's back.
