Well since it's a school environment, we have the option of using different things. Earlier we have worked with LCD's and serial ports, now we are finishing up with a 5 week course in which we are going to finish up some kind of a project. Our project is a solution with about 30 inputs and maybe 10 outputs + the TCP/IP connection.

The chips we have been using up til now is the PIC16F877, but for the sake of implementing TCP/IP we will probably have to switch to the 18F serie, aiming for the 18F452. All these circuits that we are using are 40-pin DIP.

I'll check on the links later, I'm also in the need for some kind of "free" C compiler for the project that takes the 18F452 PIC If no other option turns up, then we will use some kind of demo version but if someone has anything nice to link to I'm going to take a look at it. The old C compiler at school doesn't take the 18F family...
