windows won't go on =(

So I just put together all the stuff I got from newegg. Boot from XP Pro cd, format fine, then after about 93% of copying files (while still in the blue screen look) it can't get a file from the cd. I end up having to skip the file (was only an .swf). Then more files it can't find. I go through a process of pulling the cd in and out and blowing on it and trying my older xp pro disc, and putting the disc in the 2nd optical drive, finally get through, with even the pretty interface not finding files. But then when XP is finishing installing, it blue screens.

I've tried installing completely from my old XP disc, and it only made it to like 14% of the initial file copy before getting stuck on a file. So I just turned it off. Then I switched my dvd burner to be the master, and dvd rom to be slave, and tried installing off the burner. Same problem.
Then I tried moving the whole IDE cable that my opticals are on from the primary to the secondary channel, burner still master. Same stinkin problem.
