Lemme reiterate my previous suggestions in a "checklist" order so you can make sure they're all there. Go through these on each machine:

1. Boot to Safe Mode, verify that the LAN card is listed only once in the Device Manager. If listed more than once, or more than one card appears, delete all entries, reboot, and re-install the drivers for the correct device.

2. Open Network properties -- you should be looking at the "Configuration" tag. Verify that the LAN card shows up there.

3. Verify that TCP/IP is installed, and that it has been bound to the network adapter. You should see an entry similar to TCP/IP -> Linksys LNE-100TX Ethernet Adapter If not, go to "Add => Protocol => Microsoft..." to find and add TCP/IP.

4. Verify that "Client for Microsoft Networks" has been installed -- there should be an entry for it on the list. If not, go to "Add => Client => Microsoft..." to find and add Client.

5. Verify that "File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is installed -- there should be an entry for it on the list. If not, go to "Add => Service => Microsoft..." to find and add Sharing. Click the "File and Print Sharing..." button and enable whichever you need.

6. Verify, in the "Primary Network Logon" list, that either "Windows Logon" or "Client for Microsoft Networks" is selected.

Add and reboot as necessary. If the computers still can't see each other:

7. Double click on the LAN card binding for TCP/IP described above in (3). You should get to the TCP/IP properties dialog. On the "IP Address" tag, add an IP and subnet mask for each machine as tide described.

8. Open the "WINS Configuration" tag. Make sure that the "Disable WINS Resolution" radio button is tagged.

9. Go to the "Gateway" tag. Everything there should be blank.

10. Go to the "DNS Configuration" tag. It should be disabled.

11. Go to the "Bindings" tag. "Client" and "Sharing" should be listed; both should be checkmarked.

12. You shouldn't need to change anything under "Advanced". Go instead to the last tag, "NetBios". The entry "I want to enable NetBios over TCP/IP" should be checkmarked; it may even be checkmarked and grayed out. IF IT IS NOT, checkmark it.

13. If you have in fact done all of the above and it still is not working...cable time, my man
