Are you able to get to the CD at boot and start loading windows?Or are you not even getting that far?If not I would try another CD drive.
Auto detect:When your booting? or when your in the Bios?Does the Bios see it?
You do need a reasonably well functioning drive if your loading from it.
Has the computer already got an OS on it or are you doing a fresh install? If it's already got an OS loaded ,can this OS see the CD drive? If so maybe try doing an " upgrade" .IE ; kick off the install when booted from the other OS.
Winders will load a pile of files at first in the install process, then reboot and continue on loading and setting up. This part is the bulk of the load and after that you'll get another reboot and your pretty much finished except for any drivers that windows didn't have/load.[if any]
Apart from that it's a matter of how you configure "settings" and loading any programs you want to use.
