I got a bad 6400+ when it comes to clocking, so I decided I would go the lower Vcore, tickle the HTT, and keep her runing as close to stock (3.2gig)...

Boy, the temps plummeted, idle I would be getting 2* to 7*C, stressed well, highest emps @100% around 38/40*c, did the long stress, 12hrs+....life was good, burning less electrons....

Anyway, to my point and observations....

Yes, I enjoyed the lower temps, but, I would get an occasional weird IE error (IE stopped working, yada, yada) plus the internet seemed just a tad slow most of the time, chauked it up to just Vista problems, even posted a diddy about NIC drivers and some limited help rolling back drivers....

Nay, I say, decided to move the volts back to default (actually a bit more, 1.43v, default, 1.40) and bump the clock as I got some new DDR2 pc8500 stuffs I wanted to test....

Onward, decided phooey I got the good cooling, quit being a OC wimp.....

Results:

Although I could undervolt and the rig would pass all the stessing, it was still 'lacking' something....it turns out that with this particular CPU it needed to run the default volts or a bit more......

The change was dramatic in Vista (keeps knocking head on wall, I know, we do this all the time, well, I do, anywway) the overall system response was keen, no more IE fadouts.....

the CPU needed the extra volts I guess to make the 'gates' response faster or something....

Hey, it ain't rocket science, just another nugget to file away for those that play with undervolting, it may look good and seem to play good, but.............

hehe.

laterzzzzz.......
