Not really worth it. HT is Hyperthreading and that has nothing to do with PAE (physical address extension - needed to run a 64-bit OS and make use of the memory). If you upgrade to 64 bit OS, you also increase the memory resources needed by the OS, so your net gain may be somewhere in the order of 500 MB user memory.

But.. give it a try, especially if there are versions of your software available that are actually running in 64-bit mode. Otherwise.... the performance gain will be negligible.
