kinna a tuff question but let me break it down.
Older games you will not see a difference between dual core vs single but newer ones you will, however there will be no difference between dual, quad, or more cores just the dual core...That being stated you'll also be better off with Intel.
You are using the PCI-e video slot and most of the performance will be gained by way of GPU, plus you can take it with you when and if you switch platforms. Vid cards are expensive but maybe by way of Dual cards you can get one now and add another later.
The RAM seems not enough IMO with only 1 Gig and you can also take that with you when and if you switch plus Vista will want it as well as XP so I would go another Gig of that 1st
