USB, i know on my desktop the USB stays powered (i have an external, HD stays on when system shuts off, one must manually remove the plugin to completely power it down)

so, with that in mind, even with your lappy turned off, there might have been a slight possibility of liquid and the powered USB port connectors got wet....

as we all know water and electricity=bad juju
