Disk drive motors typically employ a brushless DC motor, which is more or less a three-phase AC synchronous motor driven by a pulsed DC controller. The motor has three primary poles and the controller fires DC in a rotating magnetic field around the armature; the armature locks into sequence with the rotating field, and the shaft turns. Depending on whether the motor is wired in Delta or Wye configuration, it will have three or four wires coming out of it.

It won't go anywhere without the controller.
