Could be a couple of things:
Check to see if the card is damaged (ie.metal marred,craked, or bent)
See if there is a notch/switch or something on the card to protect the info on it (similar to floppy disc)
Look at data in the card to see if there is some type of program preventing any info to be added erased/added...most cards
