The TX chipset only supports caching of 64 MB of memory. If you go beyond that, you end up with half of the memory being in an uncacheable memory range and that is what causes the problem.

This is particularly true if you are using any Windows 9x version that loads memory top-to bottom because in that case your OS will be running uncached and everything will be very slow. In addition, the L2 cache needs to be purged in order to make sure that there are no random noise entries present that make the CPU believe that there are data when there aren't any ... all in all, what this comes down to is that the board will operate under conditions that it was not made for.
