You may still be able to do it by installing a temporairy i386 NT4 BDC server in the old domain(an old pc would do). Promoting it to a PDC and upgrading it. Though I'm not sure wether the i386 and Alpha versions of NT work together nicely, so going the new domain route may be preferable, and is definatley cleaner.
