Yep, dial-up was on average at 30000-36000 around my area along with a whopping 0.5-1.0 Kb/s downloads.
I guess that I am lucky that we have wireless cable company around our area. They pretty much hold the standard for most of the cable modem stuff, if you are not able to get DSL or regular cable. I have been on the wireless cable modem now for about a year, and it much, much better than the dial-up crap.
