It wont POST...I simply get a durgy beep sequence at start up no VIA screen or anything.
I recall it saying it couldnt find any Hard Drives either. But that is all in 3 lines of DOS after the beep.
After that, If I load upt a startup disk (98) I get the RAM drive loaded into C: - I guess because it cant find any other drives.
I checked the C: drive as a slave in another computer and it's fine. All there...so it's not the drive.
Piror to all this, for the week prior - I was getting multiple failures and freezes - but no BSOD's.
Some where a few BSOD associated with failure to find C:. Previously I'd jiggle the power cable etc and reboot successfully for a few hours before the next one. I tried different PS's and reGHOSTed with a clean OS into C: a few times but to no avail.
Reset the CMOS - but no success.
I also disconnected my 2nd 40GB drive thinking it was failing....
Both Hd's are 40GB 7200rpm Seagate Barcuda's. But my C: is simply one of 4 partitions on one of the drives.
It does coincide with me getting inundated by a virus packet...so that's where I think of the BIOS virus - plus the geneic M$ startup message says that's possible too. But I have never had a a BIOS virus before.
I dont use a virus setup - I simply reGHOST my OS if I get too peeved with the virus build up. PS - I'm no dialup still - so the world is much easier to cope with that sort of thing.
I cant access BISO settings as it wont POST. Unless there is another quick key command.
So the final outcome is it all finally died and comes up with a BIOS CHECKSUM ERROR. So I figured I will flash the BIOS.
Does that lend any more info?
