1. Your previous Cable Modem either had a router built in, or was configured to serve multiple IP addresses at no extra charge.
2. Your DSL service was charging you to serve multiple IP addresses (pretty typical).
3. A router will translate multiple computers on an internal network for one outbound port, which the cable modem sees as one device.
4. Hubs have rapidly disappeared from the market as switch hardware has become very cheap; I would be surprised if you found one new at retail. At any rate, there aren't many reasons not to go with switches.
5. Does that print-server/switch you're looking at also offer USB printer support? If not, a suitable translation dongle may be available but I've never use one for a printer.
