yep, you where right, I did search after the model I have and found a dealer selling adapters to all laptops, I think all the compaqs had plus on center tip, so I gathered some willpower and plugged it in...works just fine!

(off topic, compaq/(HP) has a very crappy customre service, I know it's a old model that I have but..tried their forum, no replies, tried phone the support, got immediately disconnected when i typed in [1] on the phone (as I was supposed to do, since my machine was out of warranty), click...)
