To me the mistake they made was putting off shader 3.0, to have that base covered I would have gone with a slower video card. I hang onto my current video cards for a couple of years. ATI claimed they would add 3.0 in time for products, but early is better for people like me & ATI missed the boat on that one, anyhow thats what I caught from this article. I have had in my system one 3dfx, gforce (many here for lan systems also), ati & currently a gforce again.
I would have done this with CPU's to but intel don't like gamers, plus without AMD the price for CPUs would be doubled & we still be under 2 giga hertz. But we may have had 64 bit along time ago had it been intel only. So I have had two good reasons to stick with AMD.
