I've never priced a 220V bulb and don't remember seeing one before but that reminds me of something I saw on the Science Channel a few months ago.

They were performing tests on various forms of lighting to determine their average life span before burn out. And the winner, estimated to last longer than ones lifetime, was a 220V bulb imported from Europe and used over here in a 110V socket. The common 220V bulb used over there is designed with a heavier filament but when connected to 110V produced almost as much light with hardly any stress on the filament.

Either the bulbs or shipping must make them too expensive to import; otherwise, you'd expect some enterprising soul would have them distributed in stores all across this country or at least on fleabay. LOL

I'll have to ask CW what a light bulb costs.
