Can a dual boot Win 98/Win XP be set up on a SATA hard drive?

I have never set up a dual boot before and was reading that one should install the Win 98 before the Win XP, but Win 98 doesn't allow for the partitioning and formatting of the SATA.

Can I use the Win XP CD to partition the drive and then install win 98?
