I just worked on one of these a month ago. Have several SS7's and PII's and III's out here. Dunno if that's good or bad.

Possibly tripping a reset switch somewhere? The "tink"? you hear? I don't have a win98 machine running at the moment..soon to have though, Gateway sitting here to fix, possibly a power management problem? I had this on an Epox SS7 board running a K62-500 awhile back and it was tripping a reset switch. Odd thing is it suddenly stopped doing it and never had the problem again. Wasn't a power supply problem as the PSU went on for years as did the MB.

As Smoker said it could be a BIOS Problem. The P5A had more BIOS updates that you could keep track of. I thought they would wear the board out updating the BIOS. Therefore I never bought one and today can say after that one a month ago, sure glad I didn't.
