The side fan is an exhaust on mine. I did have the top fan as an intake, but I have the Aspire PSU and had to remove it because the PSU was longer than the normal PSU. The second fan on that Aspire PSU is in the rear so it draws from the vent opening where the top case fan was. My rear case fan sits in allignment with the CPU.

I'm not sure all this is all that importent. Uncork a HP machine or a Dell sometime. Not many fans in those. Normally just the PSU fan and the CPU fan and that's it.
