HP Machines. Been on one for two days and think maybe problem solved. Damn HDD is bad. Would not format no way no how. Was using the HP restores and
it would go through the motions then tell me it had errors and check the CD-ROM or Restore disk and boot back to winders just like it was before I started all that garbage. Finally I brought it home and tried it again with a different CD-ROM, same thing. Got PO'd and stuck in a win 98 boot floppy, hit Format C: and sat at 1% then popped up the message "aborting format". I said I'll be damned, bad HDD. Ran Ontrack on it and got the return code=0x70. Drive would boot winders, but was losing files now and then.
Now to tackle the one with the Riptide modem combo and no restore disks.  Been nice if HP only had one model of that thing or at least put the drivers on their site so you could DL them.
