...is that once you start posting links to another forum repeatedly, it begins to look rude (advertising). I know a lot of forums these days are free-for-alls, but there's a lot of people here (even if they mostly lurk these days) who still hold to the old-school etiquette.

If you want their attention, take the relaxed approach; those who are interested in your site will bother to take a look, and those who aren't won't be impressed by link spam. I'm not saying it was anything malicious on your part, just a hazard of the forum culture. Respect it, and people here will definitely respect you
