To be absolutly certian you won't fry anything you should open it up and get the stepping no from the CPU. The Stepping for RH80530GZ006512 appears to be SL6A8 (from intel's website). Yours will start with "SL" as well, and may be the same. Then search google and ebay for that stepping, you may get lucky. The same stepping would be the safest.

Of course the stepping or the laptop could be a lemon, and you may only get another year and a half out of it before it goes again.

Other than that if you want to minimize your risk, a P III-M with the same speed and core voltage may work - I'd only try something else if I was willing to fry it.

Also intel says BXM80530B113GD (stepping SL5N4) is the same as RH80530GZ006512. The difference is that the BX CPU is retail and RH is OEM.

If I were you I'd be all over Sony's repair reps. Eventhough they probably only give a years warranty on the laptop, its not resonable to not do something for you.

Good Luck.
