I have a Sony Vaio PCG-GR370 Model: PCG-885L
It's a year and a half old. The problem is that it freezes. I took it to Sony and they said it needs a new CPU, they supposedly tested everything else. They wanted to charge me $3000 for the new CPU. The part no they gave me is RH80530GZ006512. I checked it out online and sure enough it's a rare CPU costing more than the Laptop Is worth.
It is an Intel Pentium III-M 1.13 GHz
My question is can I try a different P III-M? Should I try to find the same speed? Do I run the risk of frying any CPU I try and or the motherboard?
