Ludicrous, Everything you said about surface area, radiation and convection of heat etc. is true but only if the CPU/puter is functioning at idle. The whole scenario changes when the CPU is running at peak. At idle, the heat generated is minimal, that's why the temp. of the CPU is at 29-35 degrees(approx) but at peak, the temp. shoots up to 45-65 degrees(approx) especially if you are playing games. Houston, we have a major problem here. We are approaching meltdown!!! Well, not exactly because the computer crashes. At peak, the heat generation is almost 3x based on the increase of temperature. The heat build up exceeds the removal of it causing problems. So the main problem here is how fast the heatsink/fan removes the heat from the CPU. In radiation, the thinner the material, the better it is because more heat escapes outside. Why do they insulate houses? Because they want to retain heat. So the heatsink because of its inherent flaws actually slows down the removal of heat from the CPU by acting as insulators.
Therefore, your theory is only applicable when
the CPU is at idle. At idle, the surface area of the heatsink and the speed of fan are constant. But at peak, the heatsink and fan being constant(does not adjust to change) cannot catch up with heat production and very inefficient in removal of it. There should be a fan that increases speed as the heat goes up like a built in thermostat that controls the speed of the fan
to improve forced convection. I got 4 computers
with heatsinks riddled with holes and not a single crash. I have tried Volcano 6, 7, 8, 9 and still get crashes. When is Volcano 11 coming out? I am just trying to question the technology in the heatsink/fan cooling device. Thanks for your patience.
