I am pretty sure that a low level format will not work as it access's the bad sector or 's in what ever cluster # it is put in the HD just freezes there. @ least that is what I think my HD did that seems to be like what his HD did. BTW the problem was my fault I removed the HD & dropped it about a foot to a hard surface. In the end I figured out that I had mirrored sectors in groups of 2 & 3 clusters wide. Once the cluster groups were remove in the FAT then scandisk surface test would get past the old bad group & find the next bad group for me to fix.
