I do not know what OS you are using, in XP I would not know where to check. But in Win 98, reboot & pick safe mode after booted into windows right click my computer, properties, device manager, sound & just make sure you do not have 2 sound devices. What you have is a faulty jack on the new sound card, either shorted which is not as likely or the end you stick the speakers plug into is to long which could be grinded down or cut down with a knife if sound card jack is plastic. The other trick which is the easiest way I have found is to knife cut down the excess plastic on the speaker plug but then the speakers plugged into other devices may have to not be pushed all the way in work right. I have run into this problem about 3 times in my life only once on a PC & has worked every time, just cheap modular all plastic plugs usually topped off with jacks being off by alittle too. I got this awnser from the other posts.
