The full version is much better. If you opt for the upgrade, DON'T put it over top of Win98. It is much better to clean format or partition your existing drive and go duel boot with 98. If you can, go with XP-Pro.
As far as networking with other Win98 machines. It's easy. XP will even make a floppy disk, (like Win2000), that will run a network setup wizard on your win98 machines to help you connect them.
