I do not know that MoBo Model but ECS is a division of PC chips & which has a real bad track record on the older MoBo's, cheap trash. The newer ECS should be better as I just got one with built in network. If your friend used stuff that you do not it maybe worth a shot to try. The Mobo may have not liked the PSU or the RAM, or so weird device or the power down system. But you should be able to but a new ECS MoBo for $58 like I got FTL. This is no speed demon & can not OC either. My warning is multi purpose anything is bad as if one device goes bad then the rest is junked.
