Oh ya a UPS only protects against power outages unless stated or claimed to do more. When I surge protect I use 130 & 150 MOV's & I use them between all three lines so I end up using 6 large MOV's. In those cheap power strips that are surged protected they use one medium sized power handling MOV on the main hot & neutral power lines & only works if the switch is turned on. Nowdays I wire the MOV's to a plug from a broken applience that has ground & I tape it up & fill with cauck & I plug into an open plug in the wall or power stip that does not get turned off to protect my computers. I used to build this into one of those power switch stations & I added 3 fast blowing fuses & a filter to block out RF signals coming in on the power lines this is not a problem like it use to be. So you can go crazy with this stuff
