And it gets weirder

I was about to install black ICE to trace it back, and in so doing I set my modem to standby. The weird thing being that I was still being "attacked". I tried to access the net, but couldn't (which makes sense) but how can I still be getting hit? Only thing I can thing of is that it's outbound, but I don't have any programs running (that I know of anyhow) that would be sending info anywhere, let alone to a dial up modem in england. Gee, I hope I'm not flooding someone else in someone's DDoS attack, but I still have no clue how that'd be happening in the first place. Especially considering that I assume that I'd have to recieve instructions from whoever is doing the attack anyhow.
