download QT5, run the installer, and watch the options/buttons. At one point, you will have the choice of specifying the file types that will be associated with QuickTime.

Edit the list very carefully, and proceed

I dislike the software myself, but some of the cool movie files (Read: The Halo Warthog Jump) are encoded in QuickTime, so...
