I do not quite believe this!

This IBM 75GXP was so far out of whack I couldnt even format it (from WindowsME on a Quantum). It was making horrible scraping type noises and couldnt access lots of the data on it after a lock up caused by cable ISP system failure while I was logged in via outlook express. I even got an RMA number and was looking for a box to ship it !

Ran DFT one last time and tried erase disk; then repartitioned and formatted and the puppy does not show a single bad sector and runs as sweet as honey.

Bit of a shame as I doubt IBM will want to replace it now.

Question is how long will it last ?

Thing is it was never right from the outset as the data structure out of the factory and Win95c did not see eye to eye. Kept refusing the installation until I left the last 300Mb of the disk unpartitioned.

The fix was supposed to be erase disk, but I had my OS up by then and was doing OK in my amateurish kind of a way and refused to do the erase disk thing which rewrites every single byte as a zero.

But now I am about to do WinME clean install on the freshly erased disk...

I wonder what will happen ?
