I just had an OS failure due to cable connection failure when using Outlook Express. The whole thing jammed up and when I rebooted the scandisk made a funny noise like a rhythmic scraping sound and the computer refused to respond.

I rebooted again and cancelled the scan before it got going and it booted OK and is operating WinME normally without funny noises and allowing me to back stuff up onto floppy. But if I scan again the funny noises start and the computer stops responding, how long have I got to total IDE failure or is this a fixable bug?

IBM 75 GXP 15 Gb
