Okay so I cheated a bit. The other printer had a newer version of the Jetdirect. Worked right off the bat from IPX/SX with Win98. Also found the manuals in a box at my shop. No kidding I had about three cases of manuals that came with all this computer stuff I got. Manuals weren't very helpful though.
1st: problem was : HP's site sucks
2nd: I treated the printer as a whole while working with it. Even though the Jetdirect is inside the printer, it's still a unit that must be worked with independently. The printer is just a printer (D'oh!)
3rd: I read off of HP's site that if you had problems connecting, reset it to factory settings. Not good when you don't know what the hell you're doing.
