Pop in the CD when you're already at the desktop, select "upgrade Windows Installation" from the menu that pops up. It will reinstall the HAL without overwriting anything else. If it doesn't detect ACPI automatically, you can force it by hitting F5 on the Blue screen that says "Press F6 to load SCSI blah blah" when it restarts. A menu will display, and you can scroll up to the "ACPI Uniprocessor" HAL.
