Once you get to the login, get in (as administrator), pull up the System Properties and go to the "Advanced" tag. Click the "Startup and Recovery" button, then un-check "Automatically Reboot" under the System Failure options.

It won't save you from problems if there is an issue between Win2k and your hardware, but it may give you more time to poke around and figure out what is going wrong.
