The 3DFX (Glide) decoder chips were developed by 3DFX for the online War Birds gaming, and anybody else that used the Glide s/w in there games.
It was a vast improvement over the DirectX s/w at that time, and I think Open GL was just being developed,, there were several other Graphic s/w's out there at the time but I can't remeber there names..In any case the Voodoo cards could decode several s/w's including Glide,, but the Diamond Monster series (using 3DFX chips) was a pass through card that got it's siganal from the main video card be it AGP or PCI then it went to the monitor,so your main video decoded the Open GL or Direct s/w and the Monster did the Glide.
When Nascar3 was published it used both Glide and Direct, but the Direct at that point in time still was not that good and the Glide was much better.
Now Nascar4 has good Direct s/w and the Geforce card does itself proud. Now I got my Monster in 98 and have always appreciated the Glide s/w, but the new games and sims dont use it much anymore, and the Direct is much improved along with the video cards out there.
Iam not tring to flame you I hope this is a little history of the Glide chips that might be useful, and if Ia'm wrong on any point somebody let me know.
Original problem ,cant get Monster to work with GeForce 2 card........
