I don't know what the typical percentage loading is on, say, a 300W power supply in an Athlon box, but keep in mind the supply circuitry is about 50% efficient (necessary evil of using IC voltage regulators), hence the supply actually draws about twice of whatever it is putting out.

OTOH, depending on the application, some of the additional energy draw in the computer may be offset by reduced winter heating load (but penalized back during the summer if air conditioning is used...)
