That sounds like a ram issue. Had that on Sonny's MSI until I played switch the ram around. Had registry errors up the bazoo until I moved the sticks around. This machine of mine came up early last year with a stck overflow error and WPF.Would not boot windows.Would not reinstall windows. Ended up being the onboard sound.I disabled it and reinstalled windows over itself. Could not get a clean install of win98 original on it to run right after that. But I could get a clean install of Linux to run and Have XP Pro running on it now without any major problems. Go figure. But I still have a "mouse" issue with the machine at times.
I worked on another one that would not install windows. Older machine, had the cab files errors etc...it was a dying stick of ram on it too. Finally after about 20 tries to get windows on it, it came up with a memory error. Changed the ram, winders went in and it's been running ever since.
Are you using the same HD? Another thought is to run a drive fitness proggie on the HDD. I have my Grandson's machine sitting here and I just pulled the HD off it. They had a time getting windows on it, finally did and then started getting errors, then I/O errors. Drive tests ok, but it's the controller on it. Changed the HD, reinstalled winders and wala it's running quite nicely.
