Subnet masks should both be 255.255.1.1 or 255.255.1.1, depending on the side of the network. In your case, you want the former.

The IP addresses, however, are what need to be unique.

If these two computers aren't part of a larger network, though, just leave the TCP/IP information completely blank, albeit make sure each computer has a unique name. Then plug them in and let 'er rip. Game servers should find each other instantly, and the Network Neighborhood should be functional within a minute or two (though it may take longer for them to find each other).
