First - up ....
Does anyone know if Adobe's Premiere is heavily SSE2 coded?

Many have said yes and hence the P4 is a better buy - espesh with the P4x266 chipset....mind you I havent ready any reports to the fact - all the other way - just the "comments" (informed or otherwise) of Premiere Users over at the Prem BBS.

Second Up....
-------------
When buying a TB/XP you've also gotta factor in the resale....if plebs like me only sell on the open market via the newspapers - then you gotta sell something that is attractive to a "not so wary" buyer to extract your last $$, so you have to use words they understand or impressed with...

Many people see intel and hear Pentium 4 and "know the name". If you say AMD or athlon and "this system really rocks" - then you might not have as confident a sale since 70% of people want or know a Pentium.

Fair enough until the 478 pin/845/P4266 chipsets came out the P4 mobos were cheaper, than an athlon too + you didnt have to buy a FAN...US$20...so in reality they were only US$50 more for the RAMBUS.

Now you can forego the RAMBUS and get the DDR, but that saving is negated by the hike in the 478 pin DDR capable motherboards...so $ for $ they are similar per "GHz".....only label - but thats what plebs will pay you for in 12months time...

Finally - We shouldnt bicker over 10% faster etc...etc...even if the Athlon is....in 12months time when you come to sell it - you'll be faced with either selling an Athlon PC that is 50% the speed of the current CPU or 42-45% the speed.....I think the pleb will go the P4 before they go the Athlon - so your again about even.....

Unfortunately you'll have to put up with a system that's 10-15% slower for the 12 months...At my current CPU utlitsation average of 30% or maximum...that's not a big deal eh!!! Cant see RC5 as a justification for me spending more money on my PC....

Well - that's only my thoughts....still tempted to go for an XP1600/1800 or Dually Tiger...but that's just my dick talking - not my head....
