I suggest a glass of water and an umbrella. Having secured those:

I can point you, off the top of my head, to any of a half-dozen reputable hardware sites that will show you an Athlon XP trashing a P4/DDR system in virtually any benchmark from office apps to games to professional 3D CAD, and equaling and/or surpassing a P4 running on i850/RDRAM.

As for "overpriced", relative to what? Hyperinflated rubles? Go compare the cost of building OR buying a P4 system versus the cost of obtaining ing a similarly-configured Athlon XP system and your perspective may get a good swift kick where it appears to be needed.

As for the P4/DDR "beating" a DDR Athlon system...I'm sure you have yourself a hand-coded SSE2-enabled string of code that makes that statement true in the technical sense, but good luck proving it with a suite of popular consumer applications.

By the way, I can recommend by name a good doctor who, AFAIK, is still practicing over in Christchurch. It's not too far of a drive for you, so let me know
