I know that this seems like a strange question, but I just want to be certain! You see, I'm going to visit my girlfriend in Edmonton (3000km away... ) and while I was there I was going to try to fix her laptop. She's had it for a few years now and has never formatted + reinstalled winblows! Obviously her laptop is now painfully slow and crashes every five minutes.
The thing is, I need a way of backing up her data. I'm pretty sure that she only has one partition on her drive and that she has almost no more free space. I was therefore thinking of bringing my cd burner or one of my hdd's to backup her stuff, format c:, reinstall everything and then burn a ghost image onto a cd.
So if I bring my hdd through that x-ray thingy at the airport (which is probably actually some sort of magnetic imaging system) would my hdd be wiped out? Also, I recall somebody speaking of some sort of IDE -> laptop connection adapter; where could I get one? Would it allow me to plug in my hdd or cd burner simultaneously with the existing hdd? Maybe I should just try to get her to erase all the unneeded stuff and use partition magic to create a new partition, but I'm afraid that somehow it would screw up and then all the data would be lost.
What do you guys think? Thanks for any feedback,
Hugh
