Christianity began approxmiately AD 40 on the basis of the teachings of a Jewish teacher named Jesus Christ, who claimed to be the Messiah fortold by Israelite prophets from the founding of the nation of Israel roughly 1750 years prior, itself derived from the lineage of the patriarch Abraham from 350 years earlier still.
Whether or not you believe that Jesus Christ really was who He claimed to be is a matter of faith, but the historical record for his presence on earth is incontrovertable.
Islam was founded by Muhammed in AD 662 based on a separate set of teachings.
The confusion comes because well-meaning pacifists have attempted to meld Islam and Christianity, claiming that Christians and Muslims actually seek the same God and the same eternal reward.
They do not, as anyone who has closely studied the Koran and the Bible can confirm.
