AthlonMP, Athlon4, AthlonXP are all marketing names for the newest Athlon based on AMD's "Palomino" core.
The Palomino is an updated version of the Athlon core that adds hardware prefetch and 3DNow! Professional (full Intel SSE compatibility), an internal temperature diode, and power savings of about 20% less than a Thunderbird part clock-for-clock.
The name differentiations are based on target markets. Athlon4 is the name for mobile parts, AthlonMP is the name for units intended for the two-way multiprocessing market, and AthlonXP is the name for the single processor home-user version.
They are all basically the same CPU, though, suggesting that AMD let its marketing consultants out of their reinforced concrete cages a leeeeeeetttllle bit too long.
