I'm putting together an ultra cheap budget spare backup machine.
Specs: ECS K7S5A SIS 735 mainboard, Duron 850, Generic PC150 Sdram, Leadtek Geforce2 MX200 32 meg.
I expect that the duron should run with a 133 Mhz fsb with little to no problem. However, what's the chance that it will work @ 150 Mhz fsb if I bump up the voltage to 1.85 volts using the pencil trick?
I haven't gotten the parts in the mail yet, but I'll get stepping info once the stuff arrives.
Can an 850 MHz Duron survive a 50% O/C?
I expect to O/C the hell out of the MX200 card too if possible. Yes, it's severely bottlenecked, but I just need a temporary card until GF3's become reasonable.
Total setup costs: $30 for a decent looking 300 watt case, $108 for the mainboard/cpu/hs combo, $45 for the Geforce2 MX200, plus about $25 total in shipping (they came from 3 different vendors).
Yeh, the 850 Duron isn't much of a chip, but it was the best combo pricepoint that I could afford for now. I'll eventually get a 1.4 Birdy or future Pali to put into it, along with DDR memory.
For now, I just needed to keep it cheap. This rig will replace my backup K6-3+ Voodoo 3 machine.
Thanks for the input.
