case temperatures can vary quite a bit depending on the type of case, level of ventilation, and ambient air temperature.

As hot as the V3s run, even a small change could be the difference between problems and successful operation.

Also, the chip may be getting old and is running a little hotter than before.

Easy test, pull your case cover off and put a household circulation fan next to it. If the lockups go away, your problem is somehow heat related.
